DOUG’S TAKE
———–
– The Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler is a cool retro off-roader that touts old-school Jeep capabilities and a compact pickup body for added utility. This Scrambler has been extensively restored and modernized – and it now boasts a 387-cubic-inch V8, a handsome new paint job, an updated interior, and many more touches intended to improve both the livability and the off-road performance. Whether you plan on hitting the trails or just driving around town, this looks like a fantastic classic Jeep, and I’m proud to offer it here on Cars & Bids.
HIGHLIGHTS
———-
– THIS… is a 1981 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler, finished in gray with a red interior.
– The attached Carfax history report starts in 1986 and lists no accidents since, though it contains several gaps.
– This truck was recently restored, according to the selling dealer, and pictures reportedly taken during the restoration are included in the gallery. The factory-fitted engine was replaced by a 383-cubic-inch V8 during the restoration. The list of modifications reported by the selling dealer also includes an aluminum radiator, a Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection system, FOX Factory shocks, 35-inch Mickey Thompson Baja Boss tires, a WARN Industries Zeon 10 winch, and aftermarket upholstery.
– Jeep launched the CJ-8 for 1981 as a longer and correspondingly more spacious evolution of the CJ-7. While it wasn’t the only pickup in the company’s range, the CJ-8 stood apart from the J-Series with a more leisure-oriented positioning and a removable top. Production ended in 1986 and the CJ-8 wasn’t directly replaced. However, its spirit lived on in the TJ-based Wrangler Unlimited released for 2005.
– Power comes from a 383-cubic-inch V8. Output is sent to the rear or the four wheels via a 3-speed automatic transmission and a 2-speed transfer case.
